The conference was hosted jointly by Indian Cotton Federation- Coimbatore, Indian Cotton Association Limited- Bathinda and LMW, Coimbatore on 5th and 6th August, 2022 at Coimbatore.
Dr.M. Ramasami (79) a Farmer – Centric from his younger days focused to optimise support for Cotton farmers upliftment. Started his career with TN State Agricultural Extension for 6 years and left to serve the farming community. He is the Founder Chairman of Rasi Seeds Co., (1973) located in Attur Tk., Salem Dist., having its corporate office at Coimbatore.
Farsightedness & courage were the foundation to invest in BT Cotton that combined genetics and agronomy. He pursued this tirelessly and succeeded in cotton productivity in the country to the next level in association with Monsanto (1999).
The First hybrid BT Cotton RCH2(2004) was a block buster hybrid well accepted by the BT Cotton farmers in India. Released the first insect – resistant BT technology bred – winning Hy. Cotton RCH 134 in North India. He developed Rasi Seeds as the largest hybrid cotton seed production company in the world producing over 45000 acres. Rasi Cotton seed is being used around 2.0million farmers catering over 30% cotton seeds market in India.
ICF recognised him during its silver Jubilee year in 2005 for the BT Cotton promotions. He was honoured & Awarded with Velan Semmal, DSIR National Award, Bio Excellence Award, Doctor of Science, Cotton Man of the Country and many more to his credit. In his corporate journey, he made charities to support healthcare, education, environmental and current pandemic stressful scenarios.
To honour his service, Dr. M. Ramasami was presented with Lifetime Achievement Award by Ms. Roop Rashi, Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India at Conference on Cotton Challenges Ahead 2022, organized by Indian Cotton Federation, Coimbatore and Indian Cotton Association Ltd, Bathinda, at The Residency Towers, Coimbatore on 5th of August 2022.
